Xirrus Management System (XMS)

Overview

  • Central network management of the entire Wi-Fi Array network
  • Control and maintain configurations across all Arrays simultaneously
  • Continual monitoring of Wi-Fi network status and performance

Value Delivered

  • Fast and simple roll out of Wi-Fi network configuration changes
  • Track and analyze Wi-Fi network usage and growth over time
  • Automatic alerting of network issues with drill down troubleshooting

The Xirrus Management System (XMS) provides a powerful platform for central management of a Xirrus Wi-Fi Array network. The XMS automatically discovers, configures, and monitors an Array network, and can scale from single site to large scale, multi-site deployments.

The XMS utilizes a client/server architecture. The central XMS server communicates with Arrays over a Layer 3 network, providing an aggregation point for configuration and monitoring functionality. The client provides the application interface to the user and can be run across the network from any standard Java-enabled browser. The XMS system is offered in two options: 1) pre-loaded on a dedicated server appliance (XM-3300-CC); or 2) a stand-alone software application (XA-3300-CC) that can be loaded on a customer server.

Typical Deployment
Typical Wi-Fi Array and XMS Deployment

Automatic Discovery

  • Automatically discover Xirrus Arrays across multiple subnets – anywhere in your IP network
  • Discover new Arrays installed out-of-the-box without any configuration using preset defaults
  • Assign and configure newly discovered Arrays with default or pre-selected policies

Configuration Management

  • Define and distribute configuration policies for the entire Wi-Fi Array network
  • Create policies pulled from one Array, then replicate across many
  • Save time by using configuration templates and applying them to individual or groups of Arrays as required
  • Schedule software updates for individual or groups of Arrays

Management User Interface

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Single, detachable Dashboard view providing summary and details of Array, radio, station, security, and alarm information with drill down diagnosis
  • Aggregated view of alarms and events presented in summary, drill down, and sortable views
  • Automated email notifications sent in response to generated alarms or events
  • Detailed, pre-defined reports provide assessment of network usage characteristics over time

Management Monitoring and Reporting

Security Management

  • Centralized wireless intrusion detection system (IDS) for a Wi-Fi Array network
  • Continuously monitor for rogue access points and other unauthorized devices using built-in monitor radio on each Array
  • Classification and location of detected devices
  • Automated alerting upon discovery of new, potential rogue devices
