St. George’s University Improves Educational Experience with Wireless Campus Using Xirrus

St. George’s University (SGU) is a world-reknowned medical school located in Grenada, an independent nation within the British Commonwealth. In an effort to improve the students' overall educational experience, SGU desired to deploy a Wireless Internet Campus Project entitled "Firefly." With a campus covering 42 acres, St. George’s IT Staff was struggling to find a simple, cost-effective way to extend their Firefly Wi-Fi network beyond a few isolated areas.

Extending Firefly beyond Isolated Hotspots

SGU had a few Wi-Fi hot spots to allow wireless internet access for a limited number of students, but these hot spots often became over-crowded with students trying to access the internet with inadequate Wi-Fi bandwidth. The existing access points could not manage the number of clients trying to associate within lecture halls and other areas around campus.

To begin the campus-wide roll-out of Firefly (Wi-Fi network), SGU deployed 7 XS-3700 and 3 XS-3900 Arrays. These 10 Xirrus access devices were all that was need to cover the initial 15 locations.
