Xirrus Welcomes Shane Buckley as CEO

Let’s face it, we live in a world where wireless is fast becoming the preferred or only means of accessing your applications or content. Mary Meeker’s latest Internet Trends report, provides fascinating insight into the latest developments including the observation that mobile traffic accounts for 10% of all Internet traffic worldwide.

Convenience has become a critical component for most users with user experience being king. However, wireless networks are getting crushed trying to deliver enough bandwidth thanks to the explosion in demand for wireless network access, fueled by the massive proliferation of iPads, Android devices, and a range of mobile handhelds. Too many Wi-Fi vendors are trying to figure out how to divide up the limited amount of spectrum.  Many suggest planning for 6Mbps per user.  6Mbps...really?  Companies have been purchasing GE switches for years.  Who wants the access layer to go back to the 90's with 10Base-T speeds?  Tim Zimmerman of Gartner stated that “without proper planning, Enterprises deploying iPads will need 300% more Wi-Fi.”

Most of us today have 3 or more devices that we carry around with us. Most Wi-Fi vendors have tried to solve this demand for more capacity by installing more and more two-radio access points and controllers, only to find that they fail to provide the performance needed for a reliable wireless connection and great user experience. Users complain and IT teams get the blame. A key contributing factor that Paul DeBeasi highlights in his session at Gartner Symposium 2011, noting that 80% of wireless networks will be obsolete by 2015.

There is a better way. With the vision and leadership of Dirk Gates and an outstanding executive team, Xirrus has created an innovative technology that is empowering organizations across a vast range of industries to support the most demanding applications on the wireless network. Thanks to the unique Xirrus Wireless Array architecture, Xirrus has the platform to deliver what all IT administrators seek – a powerful, scalable, and trusted wireless infrastructure that delivers 10X the performance over the competition – a true wired replacement.

I am delighted to join Dirk and team, to be part of such an innovative and visionary company. Opportunities abound for Xirrus to take its industry-leading innovations into new markets and geographies as wireless becomes pervasive and essential. Rest assured, we remain committed to innovation and to solving the hardest wireless access problems our customers face. That is our passion and why we continue to lead the industry in high-performance wireless networks.
