The Array Controller

The Array Controller assigns each RF sector a non-overlapping channel, and controls coordination of all integrated WLAN access points throughout the multi-sector wireless LAN antenna system. The Array Controller is supported by a high-performance, 2Gbps switching fabric, ensuring that your Wi-Fi Array will support your network's existing needs, the capacity demanded by new clients, and tomorrow's bandwidth-hungry applications like VoWLAN.

Integrated WLAN Access Points

The IAPs are controlled by a single Multi-channel MAC (Media Access Control) resident on the Array Controller, which creates the thinnest WLAN access points available in any existing architecture. From the up to sixteen integrated WLAN access points per Wi-Fi Array there are up to 12 available 802.11a IAPs and up to 4 802.11a/b/g WLAN access points. One IAP can be dedicated as a full-time wireless LAN sniffer, providing a superior intrusion prevention system. Additionally, we feature three RP-TNC wireless LAN antenna connectors for external antennas.

The Multi-sector Wireless LAN Antenna System

The Xirrus Multi-sector Antenna System is a high-gain wireless LAN antenna system that divides the airspace into sectors; the increased directional gain allows the Wi-Fi Array and its clients to hear each other better in both directions, offering extended reach in all directions. The coverage provided is similar to that provided by a typical omni-directional wireless LAN antenna, but spans four times the area because the range in all RF sectors is nearly double that supplied by a typical device, up to 864Mbps (16 X 54Mbps) of RF bandwidth. Further, the Multi-sector Antenna System offers a switchable 360° wireless LAN antenna that can be used as a dedicated RF sniffer, monitoring the network for rogue APs and other security threats.
