65th Anniversary D-Day Celebration

Orange Events (French Operation Division) Chooses Xirrus to Support the 65th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France

On June 6, 1944, nearly 160,000 allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day's end, the allies had gained a foot-hold in Normandy. Sixty-five years later, on June 6, 2009, the world gathers in Colleville-Sur-Mer, France to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day with a solemn tribute to the valiant allied soldiers who stormed the beaches and achieved the triumph of a generation that charted the course for the end of World War II. National dignitaries in attendance of the military ceremony include U.S. President Barack Obama, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain, Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and Prince Charles of Britain, along with hundreds of veterans and their posterity, young sailors in crisp black uniforms, and pilots of British, French, and American militaries performing flyovers.
