Xirrus Helps Organizations Deal with BYOD and the Influx of Tablets and Smartphones with Expansion of High-Performance Wireless Portfolio
New Product and Partner Solutions Address Extreme Demands of the New Wireless Workplace to Ensure Employees Stay Connected and Productive
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – May 8, 2012 – Xirrus®
, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced the expansion of its portfolio to deliver wireless services at scale to organizations of any size, further helping mobile IT teams make the all-wireless Enterprise a reality. Organizations increasingly depend on wireless to conduct their business and increase the productivity of their workforce. Xirrus continues to solve the toughest access problems by delivering the most powerful, scalable, and trusted wireless access solutions – all with a 50-75 percent less equipment.
Organizations cannot afford to alienate and de-motivate employees, partners, and customers due to unpredictable and inflexible wireless networks that cannot keep up with user expectations. To meet these requirements, Xirrus offers solutions that lead the market in high-performance Wi-Fi innovation, by delivering:
1. The highest performance wireless solutions in the industry
2. Integrated network services that scale and are delivered at the network edge
3. Device optimizations for the best end-user experience
As users migrate from wired to wireless as their connection of choice, existing wireless networks are being crushed. Gartner projects that by 2015, 80 percent of newly installed wireless networks will be obsolete because of a lack of proper planning.
To address the performance requirements demanded by wireless first/wireless only enterprises, Xirrus delivers a complete range of XR Wireless Arrays 2 to 16 modular access points, supporting the broadest range of use cases from small branch offices to large campus and high density areas. In the new ArrayOS 6.1 release, Xirrus now supports up to 1920 devices on one 8 modular AP Array, establishing a new high-performance benchmark for the industry.
To optimize wireless network design for tablets and smartphones, Xirrus is introducing the Wi-Fi Designer application. Wi-Fi Designer is the only tool to provide criteria-based design for planning wireless networks that matches the specific signal level and band (5GHz/2.4GHz) requirements of mobile devices such as iPads, and the wireless capacity and resiliency requirements of the customer – critical factors in ensuring user experience goals are being met.
Integrated Network Services
By integrating network services into each Array operating at the network edge, Xirrus delivers services and policy enforcement across the enterprise that is simple, robust, and cost-effective. Xirrus network service categories include Security, Guest Management, Video/Voice, Location, Performance and Monitoring/Analytics.
To help mitigate the complexity and unpredictability brought about by the proliferation of new devices, Xirrus is delivering a number of service enhancements to improve visibility and control. New location services are being added in the Xirrus Management System (XMS) 6.2 release, integrating and mapping real-time location information and device type data (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.). In addition, the new 6.2 release incorporates directional antenna information from the XR Arrays to provide greater location accuracy.
To optimize high device density deployments, Xirrus has introduced new AirCleaner filtering packages in ArrayOS 6.1 designed to eliminate unnecessary wireless traffic overhead and improve end user experience in challenging wireless environments.
Expanded Services Partners
Xirrus is expanding its Alliance Program with several new leading wireless application and services partners. The program enables end users and channel partners to get more out of their wireless networking investments and enable best practice design, deployment, and management of their wireless infrastructure and the applications that depend on it. Market leaders and innovators that are partnering with Xirrus include Airwatch, Bradford Networks, Drager, Ekahau, ForeScout, Quest Software, Raritan, SignalShare, Splunk, Stoneware (Lanschool), Twisted Pair, and Ucopia.
An average of three devices per user, four primary device platforms (Android®, Blackberry®, iOS, and Windows®), and high transaction densities add to the complexity, risk, and cost of wireless networks, especially where BYOD is concerned. To compensate for the wireless design tradeoffs of these devices, Xirrus has introduced in ArrayOS 6.1 a number of enhancements specifically designed to maximize the performance of these devices on the wireless network, including: communication rate optimizations specifically for iPads and similar 1 antenna, 1 stream devices ensure optimal performance for these devices; roaming assist helps address the ‘sticky’ nature of these types of devices when physically moving around within an environment; and Apple Bonjour® multicast DNS (mDNS) optimization for iOS clients assist in operating these devices in enterprise-class networks.
“Due to the influx of iPads and smartphones, and exploding mobile application usage, we required a wireless network that would give us reliable, high-performance wireless access across our offices for both employees and clients, including support for our BYOD strategy,” said Searl Tate, director of engineering, Paul Hastings. “After assessing multiple wireless solutions, we selected Xirrus as our exclusive wireless solution provider for its 18 offices worldwide. The new network infrastructure and services platform increases productivity and lowers costs by delivering excellent performance and uninterrupted network access using fewer devices and cabling than was possible with any other wireless solution.”
“Mobility has hit the tipping point and more and more organizations are depending on high-performance voice, video, and data on mobile devices,” said Dirk Gates, CEO, founder, and chairman of the board for Xirrus. “People expect to connect wirelessly and smart organizations see the writing on the wall—wireless networking is overtaking conventional wired, letting them do more than ever before. When we design a wireless solution that handles critical applications flawlessly, productivity improves. Realizing that one size does not fit all, we have introduced the broadest portfolio of high-performance wireless solutions and continue to add new capabilities to match the pace of innovation on end user devices.”
