Xirrus Appoints William Turner as Vice President, Customer Engineering
Executive, Author, and Speaker Will Lead Company's Customer-Facing Organizations
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – July 2, 2012 – Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced that William (Bill) Turner has joined the company as vice president of customer engineering. He will be responsible for leading the company's customer-facing organizations, including pre-sales, post-sales and delivery, and customer support. In addition, Turner will head the Xirrus IT organization.
Prior to joining Xirrus, Turner was the network and security architect at Presidio, the leading provider of professional and managed services for advanced IT solutions and the country's largest Cisco, EMC, and VMware reseller. While there, he designed and sold networking, data center, and security solutions to large government, education, enterprise, and commercial customers. Turner earlier was CISO for JDS Uniphase Corp., a network architect for NASA, and CSO for the University of California at San Francisco.
"In his role as Principal Architect at Presidio, Bill and I spent the past two and a half years working together on often very complex and demanding customer requirements. Putting the customer first is in his DNA and his depth of systems and technical knowledge puts him right up there at the top of the talent pile. As customers deal with BYOD and migrate from a wired to wireless access layer, I'm looking forward to continue working with Bill in his new role at Xirrus." Don Smith, regional vice president, Presidio.
Turner also founded, grew, and eventually sold an engineering consulting firm; taught graduate communications courses at San Francisco State University; authored books on IP routing; and has written numerous security and network protocols. He holds a BS in computer programming from Hobart College, and an MS in mathematics and a PhD in engineering from Trinity University.
"Bill's experience in network design and sales, and as a CISO, is exceptionally broad, making him the right person to further excel our customer-facing organizations," said Shane Buckley, Xirrus CEO. "He understands our customers and their needs, and as a noted author and speaker, he can help Xirrus gain more recognition, enhance our credibility, and position us strongly vis-à-vis our competitors."
"Xirrus is already the recognized leader in the Wi-Fi network industry when it comes to performance and security," said Turner. "As more and more personal computing devices enter the workplace, the demand for wireless computing solutions that provide enterprise-level performance is becoming ever greater. Xirrus is perfectly positioned to capitalize on this market, and I look forward to helping the company achieve strong customer relationships and growth."
As vice president of customer engineering, Turner will help shape the vision and delivery of client services, and establish and enhance customer support for existing and new customers. He will also aid in product engineering by driving customer feedback, industry demand and design excellence in concert the Xirrus' engineering team.
